Recently we nabbed a huge lot of clothing items ranging in time period from the 1860s – 1970s. We had a glorious time sorting through it all together, and as we did so we shot some preview photos of a few of our favorite items. Today I’m sharing a few shots of an incredibly beautiful embroidered silk piano shawl.
Piano shawls were very popular during the latter part of the 19th century up through the 1920s, serving both a practical purpose [protecting the surface of a grand piano from nicks and scratches] and an ornamental purpose.
Today they are sold to be worn as clothing items, and because silk deteriorates over time, shawls that are still in good condition are rare and in high demand. This particular piece was very well-preserved.
You’ll see this shawl in the shop soon — and more preview photos from the haul will be posted here on the blog as well. :]
Have a wonderful day, friends.
